SLIVER technology
a revolutionary step in the development of Solar Photovoltaics
The award-winning SLIVER technology was developed through an extensive collaboration program with Australian National University's Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems. Origin Energy has built a dedicated research and pilot manufacturing facility at Regency Park in Adeliade, South Australia to commercialise the technology.
2008 has seen a number of significant milestones achieved in the development of SLIVER technology.
The R+D team have made significant inroads into the refinement of the manufacturing process which is an essential step in moving us towards larger scale production.
The manufacturing team has produced our first commercial panels designed for grid-connect applications. These panels have achieved international certification (IEC 61215 and 61730). We will be producing limited volumes of these panels for installation at a few selected sites over the next year while we continue our development efforts in preparation for mass manufacture.
2009 will see us evaluate a range of expansion options should the technology hit the challenging milestones required for international competitiveness. Our development focus is on increasing the watts produced per wafer and the development of the various systems, products and processes that enable large scale manufacture. We will continue to post updates here, including details of installations as they are completed.
The highly talented and devoted team developing SLIVER technology at Origin’s Regency Park facility has grown to more than 65. Team members have a mix of backgrounds and experiences including international high-tech semiconductor research and manufacturing, acclaimed academics, new venture development and skills honed in South Australia’s diverse manufacturing industry.
